Parties in Mykonos run on a timetable, and the timetable is the only thing worth knowing in advance. The beach clubs peak between four and eight. Chora fills after eleven. The clubs on the cliff do not really begin until one in the morning, and if you try to do all three properly in one night you will spend most of it in a car.
What follows is the shape of a Mykonos party night, hour by hour, plus the two or three things that ruin it. There is no venue on this page we have not stood outside at two in the morning waiting for a companion’s transfer.
The Mykonos party night, hour by hour
Afternoon belongs to the south coast. Paradise, Paraga, Super Paradise, Psarou and Kalo Livadi all start moving around four, and the volume peaks well before sunset. Scorpios on Paraga is the quieter end of that: long tables, live sets, and a crowd that mostly sits down. Nammos on Psarou is the loud end. Both are finished, in the sense that matters, by nine.
Then comes the gap. Between nine and eleven the entire island moves at once, from the south beaches back into town, and there are perhaps thirty taxis to serve it. This is the hour that breaks plans. If your evening involves a companion joining you, that handover has to be arranged before the gap opens, not during it.
Chora takes over after eleven. Matoyianni and the lanes around Little Venice are pedestrian, so cars stop at the ring road and everyone walks the last few minutes. Cavo Paradiso, up on the cliff above Paradise, does not fill until one and runs until sunrise. Getting back from there at five in the morning is a real problem, not a theoretical one, and it is worth solving before you go up.
Private parties are a different animal
Half the parties in Mykonos worth going to are not in a venue at all. Villa and boat evenings are where most of our work sits, and they are easier than club nights in every way except one: the address.
- Villas. Houses above Agios Lazaros, Aleomandra and Kalafatis are named rather than numbered, the approach roads are unlit dirt, and a map pin dropped from inside the house is often wrong by two hundred metres. Send the pin from the gate. Say whether the gate is manned.
- Boats. Alongside at the Old Port or at Tourlos, an arrival is straightforward. At anchor off Ornos or Super Paradise it depends entirely on your crew running the tender, and that has to be agreed beforehand. A strong meltemi can cancel the whole plan, and in July and August it regularly does.
- Numbers. Tell us how many guests will actually be present. A booking arranged for a couple and then walked into a party of fourteen is a booking that ends at the door.

Company for a party night, arranged properly
A companion at a party works when she is treated as a guest and nothing else. She arrives, she is introduced by first name, she talks to people, and nobody at the table needs to know how the evening was arranged. That is the standard we book to, and it is the reason we ask what kind of party it is before we ask anything else.
Three things we will not do. We do not send anyone to an address we have not been given properly. We do not take a booking where the guest list is being kept vague. We do not arrange anything on the basis that terms will be settled later; whatever is agreed in writing before she leaves is what stands at four in the morning, exactly as it stood at noon.
Dress on the island reads relaxed and is not. Linen, flat shoes for the Chora cobbles, something light for after midnight when the wind drops the temperature more than people expect. When to come, if the parties are the point
If the parties in Mykonos are the reason for the trip, late June through early July is the best trade on the calendar. Everything is open, the meltemi has not properly arrived, and a table can still be had on the day. From mid-July the wind changes the map: Ftelia, Panormos and Agios Sostis become hard work, and the whole scene compresses onto the south coast, which is why the south feels busier in August than the visitor numbers alone would explain.
The week around the fifteenth of August is the peak of the peak. Book everything days ahead, including transfers. September is the sensible answer for most people: the sea is at its warmest, the clubs stay open until roughly the middle of the month, and the island is livable again.
The three mistakes we see every summer
Planning four venues in one night is the first. The island moves on one road, and the second move is where the plan dies. Assuming a taxi will appear after two in the morning is the second, and it will not; the rank at Fabrika empties and stays empty. The third is leaving the arrangements for a companion until the party has already started, when the honest answer stops being yes.
Pick two venues. Fix the transfer between them. Sort out company earlier in the day than feels necessary. The parties are as good as they are said to be, and they reward the people who did the boring part in the afternoon.
